SUMMARY:SIMposium - a Showcase of research and innovation supported by the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person at SIMposium to check out the coolest research powered by SIM!\nWorshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers – SIMposium \nEach year the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers provides a number of awards for postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers working at UK Universities\, as part of our charitable activities. The research and innovation in measurement\, instrumentation and data analysis includes the awardees own novel applications to science or engineering. This breadth and quality reflects the excellence of research and innovation across the UK. \nWe are pleased to announce a showcase of this work at our 2026 SIMposium\, presented by the award-holders themselves. This provides an opportunity for those with an interest in leading-edge measurement and instrumentation to receive an update on a wide range of projects reflected in the presentation titles. Presenters will be available to meet and discuss their research. This is a major networking opportunity including attendees with an extensive range of experience and expertise who may welcome the opportunity to advise and support the presenters. \nAdvanced registration for this event is required. A light lunch will be provided. \nA Certificate of Attendance is available for attendees on request. \nAgenda \n10:15 AM\nArrival\, Registration and Refreshments \n10:45 AM\nDr. Varuna De Silva – Role of AI in Measurement and Instrumentation. \n11:25 AM\nXinze Lyu – Integrated Sensing and Communication Prototype \n11:45 AM\nRuben Ruiz-Mateos Serrano – Translating Wearable E-Textile \n12:05 PM\nJoanna Coote – Measuring the Monument \n12:25 PM\nLunch\, Posters and Networking \n1:05 PM\nAmparo Guemes Gonzalez – Multimodal Brain Probe \n1:35 PM\nHuazhi Dong – Multi-modal perception systems for embodied intelligence \n1:55 PM\nZhe Liu – Natural-like exteroception and proprioception \n2:15 PM\nMahjabeen Fatima Yousafzai – Robust hBN encapsulated graphene sensors \n2:35 PM\nSeyed Ahmad Hosseini – Wet Gas Flow Measurement \n2:55 PM\nVinay Kopnar – Using oscillatory shear rheology \n3:15 PM\nBreak\, Refreshments and Networking \n3:30 PM\nLeo Wing Hong Fung – Utilizing Low Earth Orbit Satellites \n3:50 PM\nMatthew Kibble – Bioprinting\, Biomaterials\, and Device Methodology \n4:10 PM\nMatthew Green – Magnetic quantum sensing with coloured diamond centres \n4:30 PM\nSiluni Gunathilake – Fluorescent sensing platform for monitoring copper \n4:50 PM\nRachel Brady – Lung imaging in a preclinical model of pulmonary fibrosis \n5:10 PM\nSummary \n5:15 PM\nEnd

SUMMARY:The Patrick Reyntiens Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Patrick Reyntiens was a leading stained glass artist of the twentieth century\, and his collaborations with John Piper on the Baptistry Window of Coventry Cathedral and Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral are perhaps his most famous legacy. Born in 1925\, his career was shaped by the aftermath of the Second World War’s bomb damage and the opportunities for restoration this created. With his wife\, the painter Anne Bruce\, he ran the international art school Burleighfield House from their home\, and this is where John Reyntiens spent his first 12 years\, making his first stained glass panel at age 9. Patrick Reyntiens’ work is renowned for its colour and power\, and immense technical skill. His art was informed by his Catholic faith and his knowledge of music\, art and literature. \nJohn Reyntiens will explore his father’s legacy and the profound impact of his work on stained glass today. The Lecture will be chaired by Past Master Glazier David Stringer-Lamarre and will be held at Glaziers Hall\, London SE1 9DD. The ticket price is £10 for Glaziers and members of the BSMGP\, and £12 for members of the public. Booking closes at noon on 22 September.
