SUMMARY:Restoration and Revival: The Elevation of the Hand-Crafted Surface - Painter-Stainers' Demonstration Event
DESCRIPTION:The Painter-Stainers’ Livery Company is proud to announce its participation in London Craft Week 2026. We will be running a series of demonstrations and talks that showcase the expertise and professional experience of an exclusive selection of members\, whose various practices range across the whole spectrum of craft\, decoration and restoration. We have experts in pigment making\, graining\, marbling and trompe-loeil\, fine-art picture framing\, gilding\, chinoiserie\, japanning\, sign writing\, wallpaper and stencilling\, painting conservation\, calligraphy and manuscript illumination. We even have an artist who has specialised in the original\, medieval picture-making technique of ‘staining\,’ from which the Company derives its name.\nThe Company is pleased to announce that Lucia Scalisi\, known for her work on The Repair Shop\, will be joining three other conservation and restoration experts for a Panel Discussion on Saturday 16th May debating the art and challenge of conservation / restoration. There will also be two Hall tours on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th May. All this will take place at the historic Painters’ Hall in the heart of the City of London.\nEntry to Painters’ Hall to see the demonstrations is free\, and there will also be short talks by some of the artists during all three days. The Panel Discussion and Hall Tours are ticketed events and booking details are on the London Craft Week website: https://londoncraftweek.com/events/restoration-revival-elevation-of-the-hand-crafted-surface/.

DESCRIPTION:London’s Dreaming exhibition will be mounted at Painters’ Hall in the heart of the City of London and runs from October 7th to 11th. Organised by the Painter-Stainers’ Arts Society and curated by artist members\, Tim Wright and Yuki Aruga\, the exhibition is exclusively selected from the Company’s membership. The art work ranges across the disciplines of abstraction\, figuration\, portrait-painting\, installation\, sculpture\, printmaking and photography and includes the crafts of gilding\, frame- making and trompe-l’oeil.

SUMMARY:Art in the City Exhibition: Illusion – the Inquisitive Eye
DESCRIPTION:The upcoming exhibition\, “Illusion – the Inquisitive Eye\,” will be held at the stunning Painters’ Hall in the City of London from 14th to 16th October. \nThis event showcases exceptional works exclusively from Livery Company members\, each artist exploring the theme of ‘Illusion’ through their unique perspectives on visual deceptions and mysteries in art. \nCurated by Tim Wright and Tuesday Riddell\, both Company members\, the exhibition will also feature guest curator Timothy Spall\, who will open the event and discuss the artwork and the Company’s connection to the City. \nA supplementary display will highlight the Company’s history\, including a handwritten note from Sir Joshua Reynolds and a portrait attributed to Robert Peake the Younger\, a likely member of the Company. The organisers are also thrilled to present a 19th-century Madonna and Child painting\, restored by Lucia Scalisi and framed by Liveryman Derek Tanous\, with both experts available on October 14th to discuss their work. \nThere will also be a programme of related talks and demonstrations. The exhibition is open from 10am to 5pm with free admission.
