Regulation of Livery Companies and Guilds

The Court of Aldermen regulates Livery Companies and Guilds within the City of London, including the approval of:

  • newly formed Guilds,
  • Companies without Livery, and
  • full Livery Companies.

As part of this responsibility, the Court also approves the ordinances and bylaws of each organisation. This process ensures that Companies and Guilds operate in accordance with long‑established civic practice, including expectations around governance, conduct, and the proper location of official company business.
