The Livery Liaison Scheme pairs Aldermen and Alderwomen with Livery Companies and Guilds, creating a valuable channel for engagement, support, and the exchange of views between the Livery and the City Corporation.
The scheme is intended to foster constructive relationships, providing Clerks and Masters with the opportunity to share perspectives and raise matters of interest, while enabling Aldermen to keep Companies informed of current initiatives and developments within the City. Engagement is flexible and led by mutual agreement, with meetings taking place as frequently as is useful over the course of the year. There is no expectation for formal invitations to Livery events; rather, the focus is on open dialogue and meaningful connection.
Discussions are not prescriptive but may include topics such as the Lord Mayor’s themes and programme, the work of the Livery Committee, relevant briefings and initiatives, and broader issues affecting the Livery and the City. Feedback from these engagements is shared with the Livery Committee to ensure that emerging themes and opportunities for support are captured and acted upon where appropriate.
The allocation of Aldermen to Companies may evolve over time, reflecting changes in roles and responsibilities, ensuring the scheme remains effective and beneficial to all involved.
