Livery Committee clarifies Shrieval election campaigning

The Livery Committee has received several queries in recent weeks around the campaigning conventions in respect of the Shrieval elections.

As a matter of good order and courtesy to the incumbent Sheriffs-Elect, potential candidates are asked not to start their campaign or indicate their intentions publicly until after the new Sheriffs have been Admitted. This takes place the day prior to the September meeting of Common Hall for the Election of Lord Mayor.

In the interests of ensuring there is broad awareness of this convention, and particularly conscious of the time that has elapsed since the last contested Shrieval election, we felt it would be helpful to circulate a reminder of this. Your assistance in maintaining this good practice moving forwards would be greatly appreciated.
