The Lord Mayor’s Appeal strives to find solutions to London’s most pressing societal issues. The Lord Mayor’s Appeal multi-year strategy works on four key pillars, to create a City that is Inclusive, Healthy, Skilled, and Fair. The latest report can be seen below.
An inclusive city is open to everyone. London is one of the most diverse cities in the world, yet many people face significant barriers to getting a job or progressing their careers in the City. These include those with disabilities, minorities (Black, Asian, Multicultural, Ethnic), those lacking social mobility and the LGBT community.
To create a healthy city, we must end the stigma around mental health. A problem shared is a problem halved – research shows that talking openly about emotional and mental wellbeing can make a real difference, and in some cases can save lives. Mental health affects everyone, there remains a stigma and it impacts business costs.
Targeting the barriers to the skills crisis. She Can Be… opens up the City to untapped talent through a one day event in which groups of young women visit City firms and meet role models to learn about how their skills are valuable to the workplace, the diversity of backgrounds of the City’s employees, and why the City wants to recruit them. The City is committed to gender equality.
A fair city means equal access to opportunities. London is one of the most diverse cities in the world, yet many people face significant barriers to getting a job or progressing their careers in the City. Many families and children remain in poverty.
There are many opportunities to support the annual Lord Mayor’s Appeal as all Livery Companies do, through fundraising events, corporate sponsorship partners and volunteering.
