The Sheriffs’ and Recorder’s Fund has arranged a special showing of the 2020 released drama/comedy film called ‘The Duke’ starring Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren and Matthew Goode.
The viewing will take place at the Barbican Screen One cinema on Tuesday 28 February at 5:30pm. Of immense extra interest will be a live Q&A session after the film with Jim Broadbent answering questions about the film along with the Screenwriters Clive Coleman and Richard Bean. Chairing the discussion will be Dame Linda Dobbs DBE.
The film depicts the 1961 theft of Goya’s ‘The Duke of Wellington’ painting by retiree Kempton Bunton who was campaigning for better benefits for the elderly. Having been charged with theft he was tried at the Old Bailey but his appearance became a ‘cause célèbre’ after his barrister Jeremy Hutchinson QC brought about his acquittal. See Flyer for details
