The Court of Aldermen formally approve the Company of HR Professionals as a Company with Livery, making it the 114th Livery Company of the City of London.
The Company will now bear the full title, The Worshipful Company of HR Professionals.
Founded to bring together individuals from across the human resources profession, the Company supports and promotes excellence within Human Capital Management and contributes to the City and the wider community. Its members represent the breadth of the HR field, from talent and organisational development to employee relations, workforce culture, and strategic people leadership. They place the profession at the heart of organisational performance and wellbeing.
The work of the Company is guided by four core objectives:
to advocate and promote the HR profession,
to help people enter and progress through the profession,
to provide learning and personal growth through shared community and occupational beliefs, and
to promote ethical business practices that support individuals, organisations, relevant sectors, and the City of London, including supporting the Lord Mayor.
The granting of Livery status marks the completion of the Company’s progression through the City of London’s traditional three‑stage route:
- Guild of HR Professionals (established in 2015),
- Company of HR Professionals (achieved in 2022), and
- now Company with Livery in 2026.
In the last 900 years, only 113 other professions have been recognised in this way.
