Founded in 1878, the City and Guilds of London Institute was established by the Corporation of the City of London together with 16 Livery Companies to create and safeguard high standards in technical education. Its founding purpose was to develop a national system of technical training, supporting the growing needs of industry and helping people gain practical skills for employment and advancement.
Today, that purpose remains unchanged. City & Guilds continues to help people, organisations and economies build the skills they need for productivity and growth. It is recognised as a global leader in skills development, working with governments, employers, and education providers around the world to expand access to high‑quality, work‑based learning and to help individuals reach their full potential.
